Last week we saw that meekness, while not fully explained in the New Testament, is found in several places. Gal. 5:22-23, Col. 3:12, 1 Peter 3:15, and James 1:21. These verses help to explain that meekness comes into our lives by the work of the Holy Spirit and is intended to bring blessing. However, to have a full understanding of meekness it is necessary to have a working understanding of Psalm 37 as it would appear Jesus seems to be quoting Psalm 37:11 when he gives his great beatitude in Matt. 5:5, “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”
• Two destinies
1. The wicked does not pay back
2. The wicked will be cut off
3. The Lord establishes our steps
• An old man’s testimony
a. "persecuted but not forsaken " (Ps. 37:12-15)
b. "as having nothing, and yet possessing everything" (Ps. 37:16-20, 25)
c. "making many rich" (Ps. 37:21-22. 26)
d. "struck down but not destroyed" (Ps. 37:23-24
